Your Fitness Stories: Mom loses weight for kids

Ashley Williamson wrote this fitness story, "I am a Veteran of the United States Air Force, a military wife, and a mother of two!

I'm originally from Arkansas and lived in Missouri for a short time, before being stationed in South Dakota.

I grew up in the South around fatty food and a lack of exercise! I've struggled with my weight as long as I can remember!

When my first child was born 9 years ago, I never really lost my "baby weight" and I developed an under active thyroid condition, which makes losing weight difficult.

I was asked all the time if I was pregnant or when I was due and I hadn't been pregnant in years. I stayed depressed and hopeless for years. I tried crash diets and a weeks worth of working out but always gave up on myself.

I decided to join the military to proved a better life for my family in 2009. I was mocked for my weight during basic training but ultimately ended up losing 25 lbs in the two months I was there. I was so proud of myself and vowed I would never gain it back... But I did! Back to the depression, the crying, and crash dieting!

After my last child was born in October 2012, I was at my heaviest. I was well over 200 lbs and I am only 5'4. I decided it was time for a change! No more pity parties for me! I was tired of feeling uncomfortable in my uniform, in my jeans, and in my skin! I never wanted my children to have to be embarrassed of my weight and I didn't want my weight to be the reason I wouldn't be around to watch them grow up!! It's not their fault that I was overweight and unhealthy, they deserve a mom who can run and play all day! I was deserving too! It took me a while to realize that I was worth the work and that. deserved to be healthy!

I joined Weight Watchers and hit the ground running.. Literally!! In 2013 I lost 60 pounds! I haven't stepped foot in a "burger and fry" fast food place in over a year!

My family and I still eat what we want with the exception of fried or covered in butter foods. We watch portions, make healthy choices, and have dessert every night! ( because sweets are my vice!)

I've since got the fitness and nutrition bug. I started my own fitness Facebook page called, "Mamas Got Weights" to help others along their journey to find the healthiest version of themselves.

I'm currently enrolled in a personal trainer certification course, a month away from an Associates in Business Management and then I'm moving on to get my Bachelors in Dietetics! I'm truly passionate about helping people get healthy! Everyone is worth the effort!

I lost it in 2013 and I'm toning it up in 2014!"
