Woman goes off bridge on James River Freeway

A woman went down a steep embankment on Friday afternoon on U.S. 60 west of West Bypass in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -

A woman was injured when she crashed along James River Freeway just west of the city in between a pair of bridges. The woman drove off the freeway into the median and went over the embankment on Friday afternoon.

Traffic was slowed west of Highway FF (West Bypass) while crews got the woman and her car out of the valley.  An ambulance took her to a hospital.  Her name and condition were not released.

Emergency responders at the scene thought the woman wasn't seriously injured but it turned out she is.   Police who wanted to talk to her at the hospital found out she wasn't able  to speak to them.   A minister who knows her parents-in-law says she has a head injury, broken pelvis, broken sternum and broken ribs, among other injuries.
