Brandon Beck

Brandon began his weather career with KY3 in 1996, a couple of months before he graduated from Evangel University.  His first role was weekend weather, and tornado warnings were issued six out of the first nine weekends on the job.  In 2000 legendary Ozarks weathercaster Tom Dye retired; Ron Hearst moved from morning weather to nights and Brandon moved from weekends to mornings.  At that time Ozarks Today was just 30 minutes long, from 6:30 to 7:00 a.m.  Over the years the show has expanded several times and is now from 5:00 to 7:00 a.m.  A typical morning begins around 2:30 a.m. for Brandon, depending on the weather.  With impending winter storms he might arrive at work as early as 1:30 a.m.

Brandon holds a degree in broadcasting from Evangel, and a Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University.  He also holds the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval.  He has received several awards over the years, including “best meteorologist” from 417 Magazine and the Springfield News-Leader for nine straight years.

Brandon was born in Searcy, Arkansas.  His family moved to the St. Louis area a short time later but moved to Colorado around age seven after his dad left the family.  His mom remarried six years later and Brandon remained in Colorado until he moved to Springfield to attend Evangel.  As much as Brandon loves the weather even when he’s not at work, he likes to devote time to another specific passion: speaking to church groups, men’s groups and families about the critical role of dads in their kids’ lives.  “I had a wonderful step-dad who taught me most of what I know about being a dad and husband.  But those critical years without a father figure in my life proved to have a huge impact on me, my relationships, and especially how I viewed God as I grew up.  I was shocked to find how all of that is interconnected. “

Brandon is married to his wife Cindy and has three boys: Christian, Caleb, and Braden.  He loves to spend time outdoors, watching movies, and in the summer, running a fireworks stand.  He is a drummer, and plays in the band at his church.
